What does Franz Beckenbauer know….

Posted on June 15, 2010 by in England

Mr Beckenbauer knows a fair bit.  He has had great success as a player, coach and manager.  So he is qualified to comment on England’s performance.  But, slightly unwise and poor timing.  Although many will agree with his comments, although, he has slaughtered England. Is he worried that England will be playing Germany in the first round of the knock out stages.

He’s not sure if Capello can change the England team.  He thinks England are regressive under Capello.

Mr Beckenbauer is making England out to be a fallen footballing nation and Germany out to be a mighty footballing nation.  The results so far have been on his side, viz, German 4 Australia 0.  However, the USA have to be a stronger side than Australia.  USA only managed a draw against England due to Robert Green’s blunder.

Green’s blunder might have been down to the use of the new Jabulani ball.   The new ball for the Sought African tournament.  The Germans have been training with the Jabulani ball for 6 months. England had never used it before. A massive oversight in preparation for Capello.

Amongst other things he said “The English are being punished for the fact that there are very few English players in the Premier League as clubs use better foreign players from all over the world.”  This has to be a point that many England fans would agree with.  The root causes must reside with the disproportionate  amount of money being offered in the Premiership compared to foreign leagues.  No wonder England gets too many foreign players who push out home grown talent, especially when you consider the number of foreign managers at top clubs.

Rant over.  What next?

England’s next game will be more down to earth in Cape Town.  The game in Rustenburg was more than 1000 feet above sea level.  Something Gerrard commented on by saying he thought the players are finding it difficult to adapt to those conditions.

Expect England to be slow burners.  Other top teams have been no different with the Netherlands (group E) conceding the first goal of their first game against Japan.  France drew 0 – 0 with Uruguay in group A in their first game, and Italy drew 1:1 with Paraguay.

What’s more Gareth Barry will be playing soon.  Hopefully Capello will remove Heskey who just doesn’t have the form at the moment.  The doomed Gerrard Lampard partnership should get slit up.

Apart from Robert Green’s mistake against the USA that game could have been a stormer.  Beckenbauer says England play kick and rush.  But, Gerrard’s goal in the forth minute after some quick play from Lampard, Rooney, and Heskey could be a sign of things to come.  Watch out Germany.
